Project skate is a Wellington based team going through the 166 schools in the Wellington region, promoting skate sports—namely Inline hockey, speed skating and figure skating. With the help of over $60,000 from the Ministry of Social Development the Rimutaka Inline Hockey club has been able to hire five young people aged between 18 and 22 to demonstrate and educate primary school children. The team members engage in a 20 minute interactive presentation to the students explaining and demonstrating movements and tricks. We get the kids enthusiastic and excited about activity and movement, and our long term goal is to have increased participation in all three sports. So far, Project Skate has had an incredible response from all schools visited and there has already been a noted increase in participation. |
